James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (né Johnny Allen Hendrix ; 27 novembre 1942 - 18 septembre 1970) est un musicien, chanteur et auteur-compositeur américain. Malgré une exposition grand public limitée à quatre ans, il est largement considéré comme l'un des guitaristes électriques les plus influents de l'histoire de la musique populaire, et l'un des musiciens les plus importants du XXe siècle. Inspiré musicalement par le rock and roll américain et le blues électrique, après avoir connu un premier succès en Europe avec The Jimi Hendrix Experience, il est devenu célèbre aux États-Unis après sa prestation de 1967 au Monterey Pop Festival. Plus tard, il a été la tête d'affiche du Woodstock Festival en 1969 et du Isle of Wight Festival en 1970, avant de mourir d'une asphyxie liée à la drogue à l'âge de 27 ans. Il a contribué à populariser l'utilisation de la pédale wah-wah dans le rock grand public et a été le premier à expérimenter les effets de phase stéréophoniques dans les enregistrements de musique rock. Le Jimi Hendrix Experience a reçu plusieurs récompenses musicales de son vivant et à titre posthume.
