Jimmy Cliff (né le 1er avril 1948 sous le nom de James Chambers) est un musicien de ska et de reggae. Jimmy Cliff est l'une des seules personnes à détenir l'Ordre du mérite de la Jamaïque pour la musique, qui est l'un des plus grands honneurs que l'on puisse recevoir en Jamaïque. Même s'il est un artiste de musique grand public, il est sans doute plus connu pour ses rôles d'acteur dans des films comme The Harder They Come. Contrairement à la plupart des artistes de reggae, Cliff n'est pas de religion rastafarienne ; il est musulman. Cliff a commencé à écrire de la musique dans sa jeunesse et a cherché un producteur prêt à produire sa musique. Il a rencontré Leslie Kong en 1967 et a interprété trois singles pour lui. Deux des chansons ("Ska Around The World" et "Trust No Man") n'étaient pas considérées comme assez bonnes pour que Kong les produise, mais la troisième qu'il a interprétée, "Hurricane Hattie", était assez bonne pour que Kong produise sa musique. En 1979, Kong a eu une crise cardiaque, laissant Cliff sans producteur, mais il a continué à être un artiste grand public après cela, et d'autres personnes ont repris sa musique pour devenir eux-mêmes grand public. On attribue souvent à Cliff le mérite d'avoir fait découvrir le reggae au monde entier, en dehors de la Jamaïque : Mon rôle a toujours été celui de berger de la musique reggae. Quand ils ont voulu amener le reggae en Amérique, ils ont envoyé Jimmy Cliff. Quand ils ont voulu amener le reggae en Angleterre, ils ont envoyé Jimmy Cliff. Quand ils ont voulu amener le reggae en Afrique, ils ont envoyé Jimmy Cliff. En 2010, Cliff a été intronisé au Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame pour avoir été l'un des artistes reggae les plus influents.
