William Harrison Withers, Jr, (4 juillet 1938 - 30 mars 2020), est un chanteur, auteur-compositeur, musicien et producteur qui a remporté trois Grammy Awards et a été intronisé au Rock & Roll Hall of Fame en 2015. Après 9 ans dans la marine, Bill a quitté le service et s'est installé à Los Angeles en 1967, où des démos autofinancées l'ont conduit à Clarence Avant de Sussex Records, qui a choisi Booker T. Jones pour produire son premier album de 1971, Just As I Am. Cet album a produit Ain't No Sunshine, qui a remporté un Grammy, et le classique Grandma's Hands. L'album suivant de 1972, Still Bill, a produit les emblématiques "Lean on Me" et "Use Me". Le deuxième Grammy de Wither, toujours pour la meilleure chanson de Rhythm & Blues, est attribué au tube de 1981 "Just the Two of Us", qu'il a coécrit avec Ralph MacDonald et William Salter. Son troisième Grammy (sur neuf nominations), toujours pour la meilleure chanson de Rhythm & Blues, est attribué à la reprise de sa chanson "Lean on Me" par Club Nouveau en 1987.
